My Pool Picks Feature Tutorial
The "My Pool Picks" section is the heart of our Pick'em product. We provide a quick tutorial of what you should expect and how to use it.
The central feature of our Survivor Pool Picks product is generating customized survivor recommendations specifically for each of your pools and entries. It supports up to 30 total survivor entries, across multiple pools.
Your customized picks, all of the details for each of your pools, and the history of picks for each entry is housed in the My Pool Picks feature. You can find this as the tab at the far left along the top navigation bar within the product, labeled “My Pool Picks.”
Here’s a quick overview of how to use the My Pool Picks section to get custom picks for a pool.
Setting Up Your Pool(s)
When you first view the My Pool Picks page, there should be a big button that says “Add New Pool”. Click this button and you’ll enter our pool details questionnaire, where we ask you a series of questions about your pool. These include:
- Whether your pool uses NFL games, college football games, or both;
- If you pick the same games as everyone else, or get to choose which games to pick each week;
- Whether you pick game winners or against the spread;
- If you use a confidence point scoring system, or if all games count equally (fixed points);
- When the pool ends;
- How many entries you are playing in the pool;
- The total number of entries for all contestants in the pool;
- Whether your pool gives prizes for the season, weekly, or both;
- The number of season and/or weekly prize payout spots and amount for each place in the standings;
- The pick deadlines for the pool; and
- Your goal for the pool.
You should try to have as much of that information ahead of time as you can. However, if you later find out that the size of the pool or the number or total amount of payouts has changed as more entries have joined, you can edit that information after setting up the pool.
Updating Your Entries After Each Week
At the conclusion of each week, once the product has gone live after a short down period (usually by Tuesday morning or afternoon), you can update your results in “My Pool Picks.”
We will ask you things like how many points you actually scored and what place you are in the standings, as well as how points the leading positions have. While we provide recommendations each week, you ultimately decide what picks to enter in your pool. Providing information on your scores and place in the standings will help with determining optimal strategy and how much risk to take as the season progresses. If you are in a pool that awards weekly prizes, we will also ask you if you won a prize that week.
Once you are done with entering all the requested info for a pool, you can receive your recommendations for the upcoming week.
Viewing and Updating Your Recommended Picks
We encourage you to get your pick’em recommendations for each pool as close as possible to the submission deadline for your pool.
If you choose to do so, though, you can update your pool early in the week, and view your recommendations again later in the week closer to your submission deadline. If you update your picks, just know that the old recommendations will no longer be available. In many cases, the recommendations will not change (especially if not much time has passed since you last viewed them), but they can change with additional information. See “Why Top Options Change During The Week” for more on this topic.
