  • Bracket Type is one of the two following categories:

    • Best Bracket is the bracket that provides the best odds to win a pool of the indicated size and scoring system.
    • Alternate brackets didn't perform quite as well as our Best Bracket in simulations, but are still worthy choices. You can use alternate brackets for a few reasons: if you simply don't like the picks in our Best Bracket, or if you want to employ a portfolio strategy and play multiple bracket sheets in one pool.
  • Scoring indicates the scoring system this bracket is designed for. A long list of numbers and dashes (e.g. 1-2-4-8-16-32) indicates the points awarded for picking a game winner in each successive round (e.g. 1 point for picking a Round of 64 winner, 32 points for picking the NCAA champion). Most bracket pools use 1-2-4-8-16-32 scoring.
  • Pool size indicates the number of entries in the pool for which this bracket was designed. Optimal bracket picking strategy can vary significantly based on how many entries are in your pool.
  • The Current Performance fields will track how the bracket is doing, and will be updated after every round.
  • The Original Estimate fields show the expected ROI and expected pool win odds for the bracket, as of the start of the tournament.
  • eROI stands for expected return on investment, or the percentage return you should expect to earn on your bracket pool entry fee in the long run. This figure assumes your contest has an equal entry fee for everyone competing, and winner-takes-all payout structure where the first place finisher gets 100% of the pot. eROI generally gets higher as pool size increases, however, your odds of actually winning a very large pool in absolute terms are obviously very low. One important note here is that for a variety of reasons, eROI figures for more complex scoring systems carry a substantial margin of error. For those types of brackets, you can use eROI to tell directionally which brackets look better than others, but don't put a ton of faith in the actual figure.
  • eWinOdds denotes the expected chance that the bracket will win a pool of the specified pool size and scoring system. The same caveats as explained in eROI above apply regarding more complex scoring systems.
  • Released indicates the date on which we published the bracket. Our Monday brackets are meant only for people who have very early bracket submission deadlines. Our official brackets are released on Wednesday night, and based on having more research and computation time, picks in our Wednesday brackets may differ from our Monday brackets.
