QB Performance Plots For NFL Week 4: Mark Sanchez Takes A Bye?

The surprise quarterback of Week 4 was Jay Cutler. Cutler led his team to a Monday night victory over the Dallas Cowboys as he threw for 275 yards, 2 touchdowns, and no interceptions on 18 of 24 passing.  That was good for 11.5 yards per passing attempt and 34 points.

The other top performing quarterbacks of Week 4 are the guys you would expect, like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, and Aaron Rodgers.  Check ‘em out in full color:

Put in context with those stars, it is really surprising to see Cutler have such a great week after his less than stellar start to the season. Remember his absolutely dismal Week 2 performance when he threw 4 interceptions and turned in a QB rating of 28.2?

And speaking of dismal performances … Andrew Luck, Ben Roethlisberger, and Mark Sanchez all appear to have had absolutely disastrous games at quarterback in Week 4.

That is until you realize that Luck and Roethlisberger had bye weeks.

It appears that Sanchez may have gotten confused and thought that he also had a bye week, because he pretty much took the week off anyway.  The Jets quarterback threw for only 103 yards on 13 of 29 passing, which was good for 3.6 yards per attempt. He also tossed an interception into the mix. His performance earned him a QB rating of 39.9. Shockingly, New York did not win the game.

Week 5 to come tomorrow…
