QB Performance Plots For NFL Week 3: An On-Target Week

The story, based on this graph from Week 3, is all about accuracy.

There are no full maroon slices as in Week 2, but the touchdown-to-interception ratio (TDIR) and completion percentages seem to generally have gone up. For example, Matt Ryan, Matt Stafford, and Eli Manning all saw increases. Several other quarterbacks struggled including Sam Bradford, Philip Rivers, and Ryan Tannehill.

Another interesting aspect of week 3 is in the comparison of Andy Dalton, Ben Roethlisberger, and Joe Flacco.  Their shape ares all very similar with the big difference being in passing yards per attempt.  Dalton was at 12.1, Flacco at 9.8, and Roethlisberger at 7.8.  This is easily visualized here, but it’s not so easy to pull that information out when you’re just staring at rows and columns of numbers.  As the saying goes, a picture is worth 1,000 numbers…
